Who
is this Softly Dunstan anyway? An Australian freelance
graphic designer with an (almost) obsessive love of fonts and typography.
Where
did she get that stupid name? Short answer: Her
parents were hippies. And lets try to keep this civil, okay?
Sorry.
What was she doing in London? Softly and her husband
Darren were on a round-the-world backpacking adventure. When they
got to London – only their second stop – they both got
jobs and never did get to see the rest of the world.
That’s
a shame. No, don’t feel too sorry for them.
They bought a house and had some babies too, it was a great time.
How
long were they there? Just over five years. Softly
and Darren lived in East London with their go-getter toddler Iggy
Bravo and new boy Baxter Valentine.
And
now freelancing in Sydney. What does she offer? She
has worked in various areas of graphic design over the years. DTP,
pre-press and magazines, through to design studios and advertising
agencies. This means she can get things ready for press, knows the
‘rules’ of design and typography, and can understand
marketing jargon. A full-service freelancer if there ever was one.
Is
she well-(ahem)-equipped? Softly works from a home-office
on a Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 with a broadband connection. She can
also temp as a designer/artworker and makes a mean tea-and-biscuit.
Applications?
The usual – Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. She has
a long history with Quark too, and can easily revert to old ways
if need be.
Where
can we see her work? Softly
has a portfolio (lugged via Thailand) that she is more than happy
to share with you. Alternatively, if you ask nicely, she can email
a small pdf for instant gratification. Your choice. |
